Obituary for Dennis B. Kosobucki

Dennis B. Kosobucki, 82, beloved husband of Janice nee Ciotuszynski; loving father of Jeffrey Kosobucki, Pamela (Randy) Griffin and Kevin Kosobucki; dear grandfather of Aaron, Nicholas and Taylor Kosobucki and Matthew and Julia Griffin; fond step brother of Gail (Rick) Brzostek and late Wayne (Priscilla) Santi. Visitation Sunday, June 25th. from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Suburban Family Funeral Home 5940 W. 35th. St. (Corner of 35th. St. & Austin) Cicero. Funeral Monday, 9:30 A.M. from the funeral home with a 10:00 A.M. Mass at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. For additional information, call 708-652-1116.


Dennis began his career in the financial industry in 1964 at Land of Lincoln Savings and Loan as a Loan Collection Representative. He was promoted in 1974 to Assistant Vice President and Assistant Loan Manager. In 1980, he was promoted to Vice President of Lending Operations with another promotion again in 1988 to Senior Vice President, Residential Lending Operations. While at Land of Lincoln, he served on the Boards of Directors for Land of Lincoln Insurance Agency, Home Title Services of America and Land of Lincoln Builders. In 1989, he became President and Chairman of the Board for West Town Savings Bank as well as the President and Chairman of the Board of The West Town Insurance Agency, Inc. In 1995, until his retirement in 2010, he was the President and Chairman of the Board of the West Town Bancorp, Inc. 


He graduated St. Mary of Czestochowa Grammar School, St, Rita High School and St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana. He continued his education in his chosen field of banking and finance, receiving his diploma in 1965 at the Institute of Financial Education, The University of Connecticut School for Executive Development (1968-69), where he received an Achievement Award. He attended various fraternal lending seminars on mortgage and consumer loans that have focused on underwriting, appraising, computerization and secondary marketing activities and C. R. A. matters. Other executive Associated Seminars attended include Director Liability, Asset/Liability Management, Deposit Regulations as well as those on Current Regulatory and Economic Topics.


Dennis was also involved with many Fraternal and Industry related organizations in the area. He was a member of the Polish American League for Financial Institutions serving as President and Director. The Czech League of Financial Institutions serving as President and Director. An Affiliate Member of the West Town Board of Realtors. Vice President of the Kiwanis Club of Cicero. A Former Member of the Board of Governors of the United Way/Community Chest. Former Director of On-Line Financial in Oak Brook, IL. Member of the Illinois League of Financial Institutions while serving on their Education Committee and Member of the Cicero Chamber of Commerce and a Member of the Central Savings and Loan Group. He also held a General Insurance Brokers License and assisted many as a Notary Public.


Serving in the Illinois National Guard in 1963, he was honorably discharged in 1969. He was a member of the Our Lady of Charity Parish Holy Name Society, The Knights of Columbus and was a Secretary of Ceska Beseda. In 1991, he spearheaded the West Town Savings Bank sponsorship of the Christmas Wigilia for the benefit of the St. Mary of Czestochowa Social Center.  And in 2001, he was elected as a Trustee of Morton College in Cicero, IL.


Dennis and his wife Janice enjoyed their "Snowbird" retreat to their winter home in Sarasota, Florida. Even in Florida, he organized and ran an Appreciation Day on President's Day for all Military Service Men and Women, active or retired, and members of the municipal departments of Police, Fire and Emergency First Responders. When all was done, Dennis and Janice enjoyed relaxing and spending quality time with their many friends in the Weybridge community in Sarasota. He will truly be missed by many.


In lieu of flowers, charitable donations to the Knights of Columbus or organizations representing the members of the military or municipal members would be appreciated.
