Obituary for Florian Anthony Kanikula
After 67 years of marriage, Petronella (“Penny”) and Florian (“Red”) Kanikula of Naples, FL- formerly of Cicero, IL and Crivitz, WI, - are again united forever having passed away respectively, on December 11, 2022 and January 23, 2023.
Red (94) was the dear son of the late Florian and Aniela Kanikula, brother of the late Clara Treece, and is survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He lived a life of service, first as a proud U.S. Marine and then as the Fire Marshal for the Town of Cicero, IL. He was a talented wood carver and an avid fisherman who enjoyed time on the water with family and friends.
Penny (88) was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Bigos, sister of Connie Bigos, the late Conrad Bigos, late Catherine “Kasia” Wozny, late Anthony Bigos, and is survived by many adoring nieces and nephews. Penny retired from a career at Sears and was an amazing gardener who shared her knowledge as a Master Gardener at local extension offices.
Florian and Penny will also be missed by their devoted friends Fred Witte and Joe Cacciatore of Naples, FL, who cared for them selflessly like family in their later years.
Services will be on Friday, June 9, 2023. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Suburban Family Funeral Home 5940 W. 35th. St. (Corner of 35th. St. & Austin) Cicero, IL, followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church in Cicero, and inurnment at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, IL.
