Obituary for Sandra S. Polis
Sandra (Sandi) Polis age 82, of Orland Park, IL formerly a long-time resident of Cicero, IL passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022 after a short hospital stay. She was born on June 4, 1940 to the late Joseph and Antonette Sotka also of Cicero.
After graduating from Nazareth Academy, she married the love of her life, Raymond Polis, and together raised four children.
Sandi was an active and caring woman who spent most of her life thinking about others. She always had an open heart and open home to her loved ones. She gladly shared her time as a cub scout den mother as well as a girl scout leader. She was a school secretary at St. Mary of Czestochowa where she was also a member of the Mothers’ Club. She loved her other jobs too working at Diversey Bus Service transporting downs syndrome children, at the Cicero/Berwyn Girl Scout Council as a council executive, and especially her job at Brookfield Zoo where she drove and narrated the tram.
After retirement she enjoyed many activities including lunch outings with her sisters-in-law and cousins, baking Christmas cookies with her grandchildren, caring for her pets Cookie & Petey, reading John Grisham novels, watching Golden Girls reruns and viewing and feeding the birds outside her window.
Besides her parents, Sandi was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Polis, her son Thomas Polis, her sister Barbara Leffler and her brother Joseph Sotka.
She is survived by her son Robert (Bonnie) Polis, Mary (William) Christensen and Patricia (Chuck) Polakowski. She will be missed by her cherished grandchildren Amy (Kyle) Moore, Holly (Jason) Sitts, Katherine Havener, Alexandra Pasqua, Jaclyn and Stephanie Polis, and Angela (Nick) Summers as well as her beloved great-grandchildren Jaxon Moore, Patrick and Thomas Polis, Jeremiah and Layla Pasqua and Liam Polis, along with many adored nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and surrogate grandchildren.
Visitation Monday, September 19th. 5-8 P.M.at Suburban Family Funeral Home 5940 W. 35th. St. (Corner of 35th. St. & Austin) Cicero. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery will take place the following day and will be private. For additional information, call 708-652-1116.
